Tilburg Law School published its 2016 call for applications for 10 fully funded PhD positions (https://www.tilburguniversity.edu/about/schools/law/tgls/phd-vacancies.htm). The current call for expressions of interest is aimed at pre-selecting a candidate to endorse in the hope of obtaining one of these positions. The background of this ‘pre-call’ is that all applications have to be endorsed by a full professor and each full professor can endorse only one application. Through this open ‘pre-call’ we hope to find the best possible match for the application. We are looking to pre-select an individual interested in pursuing a PhD in the field of international and/or transnational regulatory cooperation as broadly defined, under the supervision of Anne Meuwese and Phillip Paiement. Please note that the application procedure in order to obtain the funding is highly competitive, and we therefore cannot guarantee that the application – which will be submitted by the pre-selected candidate and endorsed by us – will be successful.
In particular, we are looking for a talented, highly qualified individual in possession of a master’s degree in law or a related discipline with a demonstrable affinity with research. We are open to accepting candidates with their own research proposals, as well as candidates that would like to formulate a research proposal with us.
Within the field of international and transnational regulatory cooperation, we have particular interests in the following issues:
· Cooperation in regulatory impact assessment
· Sociology of international and transnational regulatory cooperation
· The positions of developing countries in international and transnational regulatory cooperation
· Administrative principles and processes in regulatory cooperation
· Regulatory ‘right to know’ in Europe
For more information on international regulatory cooperation see the recent special issue in Law and Contemporary Problems (http://scholarship.law.duke.edu/lcp/vol78/iss4/); for more information on transnational regulatory cooperation see the 2014 special issue in Regulation & Governance on Transnational Business Governance Interactions (http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/rego.2014.8.issue-1/issuetoc). We would be happy to hear proposals concerning other legal issues that fall within the field of socio-legal or comparative legal approaches to regulatory governance.
Should your final application, for which the deadline is 31 May 2016, be successful Tilburg Law School will offer a 4 year, fully funded PhD at Tilburg Law School with a 20% teaching load. This includes a starting gross salary of EUR 2,125 per month, reimbursement of relocation costs, and a workplace at Tilburg Law School. The exact conditions are available here.
In order to maximize the chances that the pre-selected candidate will obtain one of the PhD positions on offer, we request that you contact us as soon as possible if you are interested in this opportunity, and by 15 April at the absolute latest. Once we have chosen a candidate to prepare an application with, we will post a notice on Prof. Anne Meuwese’s website (https://www.tilburguniversity.edu/webwijs/show/anne.meuwese.htm).
